Michèle Bygodt

Michele, a French-Gabonese multimedia artist, has lived in Gabon, The Netherlands, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Togo, Paris, and is currently based in Vancouver, BC. She studied Graphic Design Communications in Paris and later earned a BFA in Photography at Emily Carr University.

As a multidisciplinary artist, Michele's work is deeply influenced by her exploration of the concept of "reality" and how it shifts based on individual perception. She embraces fluidity and change, believing that life is not a linear experience but a complexity of multiple ones that constantly evolve, shaping ideas and influences. Michele rejects the notion of adhering to "one style" for a lifetime; instead, her art adapts and transforms, much like water—versatile, dynamic, and reflective of the ever-changing nature of existence.

Michele is currently developing an experimental self-portrait project that explores image, impermanence, and return. By printing photographs on newsprint, a fragile, time-bound material, she draws directly onto the surface and places the altered prints back into natural environments, particularly among trees, before re-photographing them. The work reflects on how identity, memory, and creation move through cycles of imprint, exposure, and renewal between the human body and the natural world.

Michele has started building Metanoia Foods Inc., a plant-based food brand where she blends creative direction, recipe development, and operations to bring wellness-driven products into the world. Her work moves at the intersection of art, health, and business, guided by a commitment to conscious living, sustainability, and thoughtful creation.
